Time Forgotten – Spokane, South Dakota

There’s something about wandering through an old ghost town that makes you pause. Spokane, South Dakota isn’t a place you just stumble across—it’s tucked away in the Black Hills, surrounded by tall pines and quiet stories. I’ve visited a lot of forgotten places, but this one stuck with me.

As I wandered through the trees, I came across these old cars, rusted and broken, just sitting in the middle of the woods like they belonged there. No signs. No fences. Just time and nature doing their thing.

I stood there longer than I expected, wondering who drove them, what life looked like back then, and how long they’ve been resting here. There's a calmness to it—a reminder that not everything needs to be rushed or polished. Some things are beautiful simply because they’ve been left alone.

I call this image “Time Forgotten.”

It’s not just about the cars—it’s about what’s left behind, what fades quietly, and how nature always finds a way to take over. I love how the light filtered through the trees that day, almost like it was shining a spotlight on a story that’s been long forgotten.

If this speaks to you like it did to me, you can now order “Time Forgotten” as a fine art print. I’ve made it available in a few different sizes so you can bring a little piece of the Black Hills into your space.

Thanks for following along on these quiet backroad adventures. I love sharing the stories I find along the way—even the ones that whisper more than they shout.
